A note from your teacher
G. Timothy Marte, PsyM, CPLC, PGC
If you're here, I'm guessing you care deeply about at least one relationship in your life — and you're frustrated that caring deeply isn't enough.
Maybe you've had the same argument with your partner so many times you could script both sides. Maybe you're a manager who handles performance reviews just fine but goes blank when a conversation gets emotional. Maybe you're a parent, a mediator, a counselor, or a community leader who knows how to help other people — and still finds yourself at a loss in your own difficult moments. Whatever brought you here, I want you to know: the gap between how things are and how you want them to be isn't a character flaw. It's a skills gap. And skills can be learned.
That belief is what Relationship Skills Lab is built on. I designed this course because I kept seeing the same pattern: intelligent, well-meaning people who genuinely wanted better relationships but had never been given a structured way to practice the fundamentals. Not the theory — the actual doing. What does reflective listening sound like in the middle of a real conversation? How do you hold an assertive position when someone pushes back hard? How do you slow a conflict down before it reaches the point where someone says something they can't take back? This course teaches you those moves, step by step, with enough practice built in that they start to feel natural.
Here's what I want you to expect: this is a lab, not a lecture. You'll be asked to try things — to work through scenarios, to practice phrasing, to apply a framework to a situation you're actually dealing with. Some of it will feel slightly uncomfortable at first, the way any new skill does. That's exactly where the learning is. I'll be with you in the material the whole way, walking through demonstrations, calling out common mistakes, and giving you the kind of direct, specific feedback that actually moves the needle.
By the time you finish, you won't just understand these skills — you'll have a personal plan for keeping them sharp. I hope you'll dive in. The next conversation you have could be different from the last one. Let's start there.
